2011 — 2012

Welcome to the seventh year of our online catalogue of beautiful Louisiana Irises.  After all the rain we seemed to have had earlier in the year,  it is said to have been a dry Winter!  There have been some beautiful Spring days  recently, but we did need some rain, which came in some heavy downpours to bring the water table to a better level. As I write, nasty squalls are bringing high winds and more rain. The Louisiana irises have enjoyed the rain, are healthy and well into growth now, so there should be a great display very soon.  A few  more new to New Zealand releases obtained from IRIS HAVEN, Australia, in recent years are included in this listing of some of the cultivars we grow, and of course we have our usual offering of many older, tried and true varieties. Some  are offered again after being absent  for a year or two.

The Feature Release this year is ‘Our Dorothy’. Bred by Bernard Pryor, this beautiful iris was introduced in 2002 , and has been used extensively as the parent of many of  IRIS HAVEN’s newer cultivars. We are introducing this year a NZ Louisiana iris, ‘Woodley Queen’ raised by Isobel Simpson of  Hawkes Bay,  a  small-growing cultivar of tailored form in a soft pink.  There are full descriptions of both in the catalogue. We hope you enjoy browsing this website, where there should be irises for everyone. Best wishes for a great iris season.
